Burn.
As a verb, burn is defined as; be or caused to be destroyed by fire.
As a noun, burn is defined as; an injury caused by exposure to heat or flame. That's the type of burn I have as in a second degree burn that comes from being a barista (well an unofficial one). Although those types of burns feel like you are walking into the gates of hell, there are other, metaphorical, burns that can hurt just as bad.
I am talking about that destructive relationship that is in your life that can cause ultimate damage. For example someone who always makes you feel bad about yourself. I know many people have been in this boat, myself included. If you have ever been through this you will know that this type of friendship can feel just like a burn. If you don't know what that feels like, it feels like the devil is cooking you slowing alive... or just a stinging, fiery pain.
Ironically, while I am creating this blog post 'Shake it off' by Taylor Swift started playing on the radio. Whether you love or loathe Taylor we can all learn something from this song and that is to look at the situation at hand and simply 'shake it off'. Sometimes this is a good thing but sometimes you should do more than shake it off. Sometimes you need to separate yourself from the flames to save yourself, sort of like the way you run your hand under cold water for 20 minutes after a burn; they both can be life saving.
Love, Nicole Marie
