Los Angeles; The City of Angels

Dad: Excuse me, I have a weird question.
Waitress: This is LA, nothing's weird.

Los Angeles is a magical place. It is a place where you can hike mountains to reach breathtaking views whilst escaping the busy streets of California.

It is a place where happiness can come from the smallest of things such as meeting a celebrity. For me it was Nathan Fillion and Seamus Dever from Castle. These guys are the first real celebrities I have ever met and I couldn't be happier with my experience:

(Sorry it is not very good quality!)

LA is a place where the beach is not far away, providing a relaxing escape from city life when needed.

California will always be one of my favourite states in America because it is a place where I feel completely comfortable. I can now call Los Angeles my second home and cannot wait to be privileged enough to visit again.

This year I feel like my eyes have been opened to all the crime in the world. This makes me wonder - has the crime always been here and I have just been too naive to notice? Or is the world suddenly a harsher place?

One night in LA we were sitting peacefully in our hotel room, the quiet buzz of the television sounding in the background. We then heard the sound of American sirens softly at first and then louder and louder until a police officer started yelling 'Hands up! Slowly get out of the car' (or something along those lines). Obviously we were curious so we looked out the window. At least 5 police cars were gathered around two men. Each officer had their guns pointed at the men as they lay face down on the ground before being arrested. I never did find out what they did to get arrested but when asking the receptionist of the hotel he simply said 'yeah they probably stole the car or something'. His attitude was so blase, like this was a regular occurrence.

Despite this incident, I still felt safe in LA. Crime happens everywhere, it is just a matter of being at the right place at the right time (or in these instances, the wrong place).

I also made a video of my time in LA! Have a watch if you are interested:

Love, Nicole Marie
